HOW I TURNED A CLASSIC PLAY INTO AN ACTION-COMEDY MANGA

This series started as a drawing of an office guy with a cheeseburger for a head who would constantly be harassed and objectified in the workplace. I would draw funny strips about a coworker trying to take a bit out of his head as he walked past a cubicle or being cornered in the copy room.

Then I read, Cyrano de Bergerac, a nineteenth-century play about a swashbuckling poet with a huge nose and even bigger ego. He is in love with a girl who asks him to help her win the affection of a handsome young man, Christian. Wanting her to happy, Cyrano decides to help but pays a terrible price.

Suddenly I had a crazy idea. What if Chad was Cyrano? We can call Roxane Romaine instead and give her green hair. Then we can make Chester Christian and turn it all into an action-comedy manga. Why not?

Only problem...I can't draw for crap because of a hand injury, and I can't afford to hire an artist. So, we took my drawings and used AI to help generate the images and the comic was born. However, that is why it is free. We want readers to have a chance to love the story. Our goal is to attract a real artist who would be willing to reimagine the series in their own unique style and then eventually repackage and distribute the story to compensate the artist. For now, I just want people to read it and enjoy it.

As a lover of literature, I hope people reading "Chad the Cheeseburger" get curious about Cyrano de Bergerac and pick up a copy by Edmond Rostand. This story wouldn't exist without it. If you do read it and love it, please let us know. We are currently working on a prequel series, Chad the Younger, which takes place during Chad's year studying abroad in Japan as a high schooler. This story explains how he became the charming poetic swordsman we know and love in the original series.
